Preserve the art

Care Guide

Mithila art is made with natural pigments and traditional techniques — a little care goes a long way in preserving its beauty for generations.

🖼️ Paintings

Framing

Frame within 30 days of delivery using UV-protective glass to prevent fading. Use acid-free matting to keep the painting away from direct contact with glass.

Sunlight

Keep away from direct sunlight and fluorescent light. UV rays fade natural pigments over time. North-facing walls are ideal.

Humidity

Maintain moderate humidity (40–60%). Avoid hanging in bathrooms or near AC vents. In very dry climates, use a humidifier nearby.

Cleaning

Never wipe the surface of a painting. Dust gently with a soft dry brush. For framed pieces, clean the glass only — never the art.

Storage (unframed)

Roll loosely in acid-free tissue (never crease), insert into a rigid tube. Store flat if possible. Do not stack heavy objects on top.

Authenticity

Each painting comes with a certificate of authenticity. Store it safely — it significantly affects resale and collector value.

🥻 Sarees

Washing

Dry clean recommended for silk sarees. For cotton and linen, hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Do not machine wash.

Drying

Always dry in shade. Direct sunlight fades hand-painted Mithila motifs. Do not wring — gently squeeze out water and hang flat.

Ironing

Iron on the reverse side at low-medium heat. Place a cloth between the iron and the painted surface. Avoid ironing directly over the motifs.

Storage

Fold along existing creases and wrap in a muslin cloth. Avoid plastic bags which trap moisture. Refold every 3–6 months to prevent permanent crease lines.

First wash

Wash separately for the first time as natural dyes may bleed slightly. Add a tablespoon of white vinegar to cold water to help set the colors.

🧣 Dupattas

Washing

Hand wash gently in cold water with a mild, color-safe detergent. Avoid scrubbing the painted areas directly.

Drying

Dry flat in shade. Do not hang by one end — this can stretch and distort the fabric.

Ironing

Use low heat on the reverse side. The natural dye colors on dupattas deepen beautifully with careful wear and washing over time.

Storage

Fold and wrap in muslin or cotton. Avoid hanging for long periods as it may stretch delicate handloom fabric.
